Thursday, May 10
Time is running out for poll workers to take certification training if they want to continue to work at election sites. The deadline, according to Tony Desimone, the county’s poll worker training coordinator, is June 2. Title 19 of New Jersey election law requires that all poll workers take an election training class every two years to become or remain a certified board worker, Desimone said in a statement sent to media. Desimone said veteran poll workers who took the class the first time it was offered in 2010 must take a training class by June 2 to become recertified. “It’s the law. This training is mandatory,” Desimone said. “All board workers who have not attended a class in the past two years and all first-time board workers must …

About half approve of job president is doing

Read the full statement from FDU below, then take our own poll to let us know what you think? According the latest poll by Fairleigh Dickinson University’s PublicMind™, 50 percent of New Jersey voters say they approve of the way the president is handling his job, while 42 percent disapprove. Bernardsville attorney prepares for 50 to 100 people at Wednesday fundraiser for N.J. Sen. Joseph Kyrillos, with chance to meet presidential hopeful.
Preparations for Wednesday's private campaign fundraiser that will bring together Republican candidates Sen. Joseph Kyrillos, who's seeking election to the U.S. Senate, and his friend Mitt Romney—who's got his eye on the White House— have been underway at the Deutsch household in Bernardsville. "It's not going to be a huge crowd," said Edward Deutsch, a managing partner of the law firm of McElroy, Deutsch, Mulvaney & Carpenter. Deutsch and his wife will be hosting the campaign event at his home. Already, he said, Romney's security staff were at his house on Tuesday. Deutsch said people are still responding to invitations to the $5,000-a-plate fundraiser. He said he's expecting about 50 to 100 guests to attend Wednesday's event, which will …

Lyndon LaRouche supporters ask Hopatcong residents to impeach 'King Obama.'
Displaying photos of the president donning a Adoff Hitler mustache and asking passersby to help impeach "King Obama," a pair of Lyndon LaRouche supporters railed against Barack Obama Friday on the sidewalk in front of Hopatcong's post office. Bob Wesser and Jeff Rebello handed out literature on behalf of the the LaRouche PAC—a group promoting the ideas of the leftist political activist—while supporting Democrat Diane Sare's Fifth Congressional District candidacy and warning that Obama and the German leader responsible for millions of deaths had plenty in common. "Absolutely," Wesser, of Bogata, said of when asked if dressing Obama up with Hitler's trademark facial hair was appropriate. Wesser said the National Defense Authorization Act—…

Most in New Jersey lost that right, but 10 Morris County municipalities are still holding April school elections.
This is a column about how important it is for everyone to go out to the polls tomorrow to vote for candidates for school boards and to vote on local school budgets. But it’s not very relevant for the vast majority of adults in New Jersey because most people will not get the chance to pick candidates or accept or reject the proposed tax bill for their local schools. In Morris County, only 10 municipalities will hold school elections tomorrow, and because some of those towns are in regional districts, it means only eight budgets are up for a vote. (In Patch-covered towns, votes will be held in the School District of the Chathams, the Morris School District, and Mendham Township — that's it). The bill that Gov. Chris Christie signed at the …

Three hopefuls remain in fight for the White House.

Wednesday, April 11
Now that Rick Santorum, who many believe was the most conservative of the Republican candidates, has ended his quest for the White House, three hopefuls remain–Mitt Romney, Ron Paul, and Newt Gingrich–to battle it out in the Primary Election and claim the party's nomination. The winner will go on to face President Barack Obama in the November General Election. Of the 1,144 delegates needed to win the GOP Primary, Romney currently has 651, with Gingrich behind him at 138, and Paul trailing with 71. Now that the race is down to three, who do you think should represent the Republican Party in the General Election? This poll is published on Patch sites in Morris and Sussex counties.
Incumbents Bunce, Galate will run together, opposing newcomers Forbes, Gianni.
The Republican primary for Hopatcong's open council seats will be a two-on-two. Councilwoman Marie Galate and Councilman Richard Bunce each said they would support one another in the June 5 election, despite a paperwork mixup that kept them off the same ticket. The two will defend their seats against Republican newcomers Thomas Forbes and Mariano Gianni. The incumbents had registered before last Monday's deadline under similar slogans—"Helping Hopatcong Move Forward" for Bunce; "Keeping Hopatcong Moving Forward" for Galate. Forbes and Gianni, however, are running under the "Keep Hopatcong Honest" banner. Bunce and Galate have been on the borough council since Galate's 2007 election. Bunce was elected in 2003. Running together was a natural…

Montville political newcomer is sworn in Saturday after winning the party convention's support.
Political newcomer William “Hank” Lyon was sworn in as a Republican Morris County freeholder Saturday after winning a court-ordered special convention. Lyon will serve in this seat until the end of the year. An election will be held in November to fill remainder of the 3-year term. Also up for grabs in that general election ballot are three freeholder seats now held by incumbents Gene Feyl, Bill Chegwidden and John Murphy. Former freeholder Jack Schrier welcomed Lyon. "We wish him the very best, especially as the Freeholder Board is now in a state of major reorganization, with even more to come in June," Schrier said. Saturday’s convention was ordered by a state appeals court in February when it removed incumbent Margaret Nordstrom from …

Christie-hosted fundraising reception at Hilton Parsippany draws hundreds.
The smiles were big and the crowds even larger as Republicans from across the state—though relatively few from Morris County—gathered at the Hilton Parsippany Monday night to meet the man many say will be the 2012 GOP presidential nominee—Mitt Romney. Gov. Chris Christie was the host of the event, and many of those in attendance said it was their respect for Christie that enticed them to hear what Romney might have to say. Most media were not allowed into the highly restricted event, and therefore, not permitted to have contact with the candidate or with Christie. Both were brought into and out of the hotel via a back entrance and were not seen save by staffers and those with tickets. A representative of Romney for President who declined …
Tickets going for $500 per person and a photo with the presidential candidate costs $2,500.
The contentious Republican 2012 presidential campaign rears its head in Parsippany Monday night, but this event is all about supporting one candidate. Mitt Romney, of Massachusetts, will be in the township at the Hilton Parsippany for a fund-raising reception. The event is being organized by Romney for President, but the evening's official host is New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie. The event is a pricey one, according to a NJ.com report that says tickets for the reception run $500 per person. A photo with Romney reportedly will go for $2,500. What's being billed as Romney's New Jersey Kickoff Reception, takes place at Parsippany's Hilton hotel at 6 p.m.
