McQuade Date: November 28th, 1921 - May 5th, 2012 Obituary: Kathleen P. “Kay” (nee: Benson) McQuade of Hopatcong passed away Saturday May 5, 2012 at her daughter’s home in Andover Twp. She was 90. Born in Boston MA, she lived in New York NY before moving to Hopatcong in 1962. She has lived for the last 8 years in Andover Twp. She served as the registrar for the Hopatcong Board of Health prior to her retirement in 1997. A WWII Navy veteran, Kay was a member of the Navy Waves and the Hopatcong VFW. She was also a parishioner for many years of St. Jude’s RC Church in Hopatcong and a parishioner of Good Shepherd RC Church in Andover. “She will be greatly missed”. Obituary: Doris Roberts a 'Treasure'

Former 'Lake Hopatcong Breeze' advertising saleswoman also owned 'The Shopper's Friend.' Roberts died Saturday. She was 90.

Doris Roberts of Jefferson Township died last Saturday. She was 90. “She was a treasure,” said Jefferson Township mayor Russell Felter. “She did a lot for this town, and was very active up until just a few months ago. She loved this town a lot, and she will be sorely missed. Our sympathy goes out to her friends and family.” Roberts promoted many causes throughout town, including the Jefferson Arts Committee. She was a telephone operator for Bell Telephone in Jersey City and also worked as an assembler for Automatic Switch Co (ASCO) in Florham Park. After Long Battle, Lyon Is Freeholder

Montville political newcomer is sworn in Saturday after winning the party convention's support.

Political newcomer William “Hank” Lyon was sworn in as a Republican Morris County freeholder Saturday after winning a court-ordered special convention. Lyon will serve in this seat until the end of the year. An election will be held in November to fill remainder of the 3-year term. Also up for grabs in that general election ballot are three freeholder seats now held by incumbents Gene Feyl, Bill Chegwidden and John Murphy. Former freeholder Jack Schrier welcomed Lyon.  "We wish him the very best, especially as the Freeholder Board is now in a state of major reorganization, with even more to come in June," Schrier said. He never prohibited the County Committee from naming Lyon to the Ballot and there would have been no issue. That was a judgement call and a bad one by the Republican County Committee. Whitney Houston Laid to Rest in Westfield

Procession arrived at noon Sunday for burial ceremony at Fairview Cemetery. Nearly 100 fans shouted 'We love you, Whitney' as hearse turned into the cemetery.

The vigil at Fairview Cemetery began at first light Sunday morning. There were no mourners, just reporters and photographers mingling congenially as they staked out a good spot for their reports back to the network morning shows or a position for the perfect photo of the funeral procession bringing Whitney Houston to the cemetery for her burial. Police officers arrived before daylight, at 6 a.m., to secure every possible corner of the Fairview property, from the Cranford border along Union County College to the south and E. Broad Street to the north.
