Bio
Brendan Kuty has been a journalist for almost five years, having spent time with the Daily Record, Sportsnet New York and, most recently, the New Jersey Herald. He graduated from William Paterson University with a bachelor's degree in journalism and public relations.
Your Beliefs
At Patch, we promise always to report the facts as objectively as possible and otherwise adhere to the principles of good journalism. However, we also acknowledge that true impartiality is impossible because human beings have beliefs. So in the spirit of simple honesty, our policy is to encourage our editors to reveal their beliefs to the extent they feel comfortable. This disclosure is not a license for you to inject your beliefs into stories or to dictate coverage according to them. In fact, the intent is the opposite: we hope that the knowledge that your beliefs are on the record will cause you to be ever mindful to write, report and edit in a fair, balanced way. And if you ever see evidence that we failed in this mission, please let us know.
Politics
Q: How would you describe your political beliefs?
I'm the middle-of-the-road type. I'm for what makes the most sense. But I need to hear all sides of the issue before making a decision. So, I guess I'm a lot like you. And you. And you.
Q: Are you registered with a certain party?
Nope.
Religion
Q: How religious would you consider yourself? (casual, observant, devout, non religious)
I was raised a casual Catholic. I don't usually attend church services. I do, however, attend church services on Christimas with my family in Kearny.
Local Hot-Button Issues
What do you think are the most important issues facing the community?
There's a lot on the minds of Hopatcong residents. School budget cuts. Department of Public Works cuts. Revitalization of promising business areas, especially around the lake. Affordable housing. Property taxes. Lake Hopatcong.
Where do you stand on each of these issues?
While I'm always gathering information that could change my views, it's clear Hopatcong is struggling to adapt to new economic realities—less state aid, higher property taxes, lower property values.

OFF THE RECORD I am hoping for the lot behind the Hopatcong Hardware store (the lot is sort of an extension of the skate park through to Bell Ave) which is owned by the town. There has been much talk of "shady" activity back there and this location has parking, would benefit local businesses (in the nearby strip malls and the hardware store) , clean up the area, be clearly visible as a source of pride in the community and fit right in with the new look that area is undergoing. I have spoken to one of the council members who agrees and will be discussing it with the Mayor within the next few days. The reason I would prefer to have this off the record for now is that everyone (the Mayor and the council) have been so incredibly helpful that I do not want them to feel any sort of pressure at this point until logistics are addressed (the lot will require some serious attention and a lot of effort to clear) AND more importantly, I don't want to jinx it...I've gotten a great response to this project thanks to you! Thank you so much!

Why was the 2011 MS WALK removed from the calendar? It was posted for April 10, 2011, Sunday from 9am to 12pm. It is for a good cause. I will no longer tell people to read the Patch nor will I read it any longer. I cannot believe that it was removed.

Hi Brendan,
I just read the piece regarding the ordinance for vehicles parked on the road during snow plowing etc. Thank you for using my comment. I am pleased to see it was one of value. I must say though and please bare in mind my forte' is finance not journalism however (there' always a however), I thought the most important message in my comment was not so much the conditions created by this issue but most important my statement with respect to emergency vehicles and how the current conditions may or can mean the difference between a life and death situation.
I hope this critique is taken in the context in which it was meant.
